The University of Georgia Press Book Cover |
I was working with Whit Gibbons on designing the book and he wanted to use an image of a this particular lizard for the cover. He told me he could provide one for me if I could get a photographer to take the shot. It so happens that I know a photographer, but Whit worked a three hour drive away. Within a half hour he called and said he had a male and a female specimen available! Fortunately, he had called a nature park very close to where we lived, so I called Doug to see if he could go over there right away.
Once we arrived, the man we met said he had gone out and looked where he knew the lizards would be and just picked them up! OK, it was a little chilly that morning and he mentioned that since the critters were cold blooded they would be much easier to catch at that hour. Unfortunately they both lost their tails while being caught and it pretty well dictated how they would have to be photographed for the cover. They were shot on a white board as you see here and as the sun warmed them up they became more active, so I was happy that we were able to get this shot that day!
Other examples of my design can be seen here.
